Rebate or tax relief

I didn't realise this when I posted earlier about the budget 2007.

Today, I have had the opportunity to study the budget.

Here what I found.

Manfaat perkembangan ICT perlu dinikmati oleh semua lapisan rakyat. Pada tahun 2005, kadar pemilikan komputer serta kadar penembusan jalur lebar di negara ini masih rendah, masing-masing pada 21.8 dan 1.9 bagi setiap seratus penduduk. Kadar ini adalah jauh lebih rendah berbanding negara maju. Untuk menggalakkan pemilikan komputer, tempoh layak menuntut galakan cukai bagi pembelian komputer yang kini diberi bagi setiap lima tahun, dipendekkan kepada setiap tiga tahun; manakala galakannya dalam bentuk rebat cukai 500 ringgit diubah kepada pelepasan cukai sebanyak 3,000 ringgit. It's not goodies afterall.

Here the calculation.

If your monthly salary is RM3000, you have to pay RM185 for your tax based on the old calculation. With the new tax relief, you have to pay RM475.

Rebate & Tax relief is completely 2 different things.

In this case, it only benefit those in the higher income bracket. Those categorised in the 19% tax bracket. For those falls in this tax bracket, their yearly income should be about RM84K. Tax relieve for this category is RM 570 ( Relieve RM 3000 x 0.19) But how many Malaysia earn RM6900 a month?

I dunno. I not tax expert. Now u tell me lar. How?
